The Three Cats

When I stooped down to pet the first one, she very promptly jumped up on to my shoulder. I was very happy. I walked back to my room with her perched on my shoulder, claws clinging on to the threads of my shirt, and some to my skin. I fed her eggs, milk and sometimes chicken. Then one day, she was gone!

I fell in love with cats right then.

Then the second one came. He was a tiny kitten, and had probably gotten separated from his mother. Oh what a delight he was! He curled up into a tight little ball when he slept, almost in a fetal position. I fed him milk, eggs and an occasional fish.
I must have started smelling of cats by now, because one person who was leaving the IIT Bombay campus, asked me to look after his cat. That was the third one.
This is when I bought fish everyday for about a week. I had a kitty litter in my room, which I cleaned twice daily. I swept and scrubbed my room clean every night. The cats were adorable. I loved playing with them. Every morning, I went out with them on short walks. They would play in the sun, and have a great time.
One day I left them outside to play. When I returned for lunch, they were gone!! That morning was the last time I saw the second. The third, I saw him playing with another guy a few weeks later. He seemed healthy, so I did not attempt to retrieve him for myself.
